Try nasa.gov, the official nasa site also google Hubble Telescope or any astronomy, astrophysics or cosmology term or theory (eg. red shift, black hole, cosmological constant, inflaton, etc.) Also if you are at a site and see a term you don’t understand, do a search of that term.

My own best recommendation though is to subscribe to my favorite magazine: Astronomy Magazine. You can go to their website, astronomy.com, or next time you are in a book store, pharmacy or the library, bet a copy of the magazine, and take one of the subscription mailers and send it in.

Other good sites are sciam.com the Scientific American site, Stanford.edu, caltec.edu, mit.edu.

Also go the your library and the science section, for astronomy, cosmology and/or physics.

You can probably check out some of the Teaching Company DVD sets from your public library.

MIT puts a great deal of their course materials online for free – you won’t get any credit from following along, but you can’t get that for free anyway.

check out websites for your local community colleges, a lot of them offer webcourses and you would want to start with an Intro to Astronomy which usually don’t require pre-requisites and many of them offer courses for non-degree seeking students at a discount.

Here’s an example from a community college it’s a pdf of their catalog and if you look at p143 you’ll see the Astronomy courses offered:

Not really. I did a search a while ago (couple of years, actually). Didn’t really come up with much of anything beyond the simple stuff. The only set of free courses that were interesting was from project CLEA.
