  1. There are only three main types which you listed (there are variations within those types). I suppose you could include a combined lens-mirror telescope as a fourth type but it is just a hybrid of two of the main three.

  2. Infrared telescopes pick up light that is below what we can see. Meaning the light it picks up has a longer wavelength and shorter frequency than visible light.

    Ultraviolet telescopes pick up light on the other end just beyond what we can see. This part of the electromagnetic spectrum has shorter wavelengths and a greater frequency.

    There are also X-rays telescopes: beyond UV on the spectrum.

    And Gamma’s are beyond X-ray.
